Yesterday was National Sisters Day, and we thought the best way to celebrate was to give you a list of sporty sisters to watch, whether they’re duos, trios, or a sports business and athlete combo. These sporty sisters are taking the world by storm and showing that yes, sometimes it does run in the family.

  1. Chiney and Nneka Ogwumike

While Chiney and Nneka Ogwumike both played in the WNBA back in the day, the sisters remain a well-known duo of women’s basketball, with Nneka playing for the Seattle Storm and serving as the WNBPA President, and Chiney as an ESPN Basketball Analyst. Chiney has gotten the chance to break news for her sister and be the first one to announce trades and re-signings, and we can’t wait to see this duo in action on both sides of the court for many years to come.

2. The Humphrey Sisters

Nicole, Ashley, and Chloe Humphrey are three sisters who play for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Women’s Lacrosse team, and this year accomplished their dream of not only playing for the same team, but winning the 2025 NCAA championship with an undefeated record. Maybe the key to national championships really is some good ol’ sisterly love.

3. Alyssa, Gisele, and Zoe Thompson

Gisele and Alyssa play for the National Women’s Soccer League team, Angel City FC. You might remember earlier this year seeing a video of Gisele making her first NWSL goal, assisted by her sister Alyssa. What some folks don’t know is that there’s a third Thompson sister, Zoe, who also plays soccer and, at only 13 years old, has been called up to the USWNT U-14 talent camp, while Alyssa and Gisele were called up to the USWNT camp. We know to expect Zoe’s appearance in the NWSL someday, and wouldn’t it be crazy to have all three sisters playing for Angel City FC?

4. The Maher Sisters

Olivia, Ilona, and Adrianna Maher’s podcast House of Maher gives a lot of insight into their sibling dynamics, including how Olivia and Adrianna are involved in Ilona’s worldwide rugby escapades. From discussing partying in London and growing up together to current events and Olivia's responses to emails for Ilona as her agent, these three always keep it real and sporty.

5. Karlie, Bonnie, and Katie Lou Samuelson

Katie Lou Samuelson played collegiate basketball at UConn, and Karlie and Bonnie played at Stanford. While Katie Lou and Karlie both play for the WNBA, with Karlie injured and part of an August 3rd trade deal to Dallas, and Katie Lou also injured but active on the Seattle Storm roster, all three sisters have played professionally overseas.

6. The Mabrey Sisters

All five of the Mabrey siblings are professional and/or collegiate basketball players (brothers Ryan and Roy played in college). Still, Michaela, Dara, and Marina Mabrey are all taking the sports world by storm in their unique ways. Marina plays for the WNBA’s Connecticut Sun, Dara just returned from playing professionally in Hungary, and Michaela is the assistant women’s basketball coach of their alma mater, Notre Dame. Talk about a basketball family.

7. Venus and Serena Williams

The classic sporty sister duo, Venus and Serena Williams, are still killing it. Venus recently became the second-oldest woman to win a DC Open singles match, and Serena still has an impact on the growth of tennis. She has played a few doubles matches, even after retiring from singles. Even as semi-retired players, these two are out blazing trails in tennis and sports together and individually.

8. Nyara and Satou Sabally

Yet another WNBA sister duo, Nyara and Satou Sabally, play for the New York Liberty and Phoenix Mercury, respectively. This fiery duo has gotten the chance to meet up for a game within these past few weeks, with Nyara having won the 2024 WNBA Championship with the Liberty. This wonderful sister duo is the mark of yet another basketball family, and we’re sure they won't be the last sister duo to grace the courts of the WNBA.
