Subway Series Breakdown: Pick a Series Highlight, and We'll Tell You Your NYC Borough
The showdown of New York City has just ended, with a Mets win over the Yankees in the 2025 Subway Series. Plenty of New Yorkers look forward to this series every year, as it only further solidifies a rivalry that’s been going on since the introduction of the Mets to New York City in 1962. New York City’s rich culture, history, and love for sports all play into the rivalry, so we thought it would only make sense to help you choose your borough and some other teams that play there based on your favorite sportsish moment from the 2025 Subway Series.

If your favorite moment of the Subway Series was the New York Mets taking the win, your borough is Queens. Citi Field is the Mets’ home stadium in Flushing and is one of many sites to see and places to play in Queens. A borough known for its diversity and distinct multi-cultural neighbourhoods, Queens is a hub for sports, entertainment, food, and more. Some other sports played in Queens include the US Open Tennis at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, and the New York Islanders at UBS Arena, right on the border of Queens and Nassau County.
Creativity in Action: Bring it to Brooklyn

If your favorite part of the Subway Series was watching the Mets test out some brand-new pitchers like Rico Garcia and Zach Pop, your borough is Brooklyn. Brooklyn is a place where creativity thrives, newness and experimentation are more than welcome, and community is encouraged. Brooklyn’s art and music scene is something to be appreciated, and the uniqueness of this borough reflects the uniqueness of each pitcher and their skills. Some other teams that play in Brooklyn include the New York Liberty and the New York Nets, both of which play at the Barclays Center.
The Rivalry Lives On - Look At Historical Staten Island

If your favorite part of the Subway Series is the exciting rivalry, jabs, and overall spiciness between each team’s fans for the last 63 years, you’ve got to go to Staten Island. This borough is a more suburban area than most of the city, featuring numerous green spaces, historic buildings, and a strong Italian-American cultural heritage. After the Mets were founded in 1962, the rivalry began in spring training games and was officially solidified in 2000 when the Yankees and Mets played in a Subway Series-style World Series, where the Yankees won. Another team to watch that plays on Staten Island are the Staten Island FerryHawks, in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball.
Manhattan: Jumbotron Fun
If your favorite moment was the Mets trolling Yankees fans on the Jumbrotron at Citi Field, your borough is Manhattan. Manhattan’s history as the most well-known and visited borough in the city is exciting to many people - you never know what or who you’ll see, just like on the Jumbotrons. The Mets' creative crew played some funny jokes on Yankees fans throughout the game, imposing Mets hats onto Yankee hats and “fan thoughts” segment where they put thought bubbles over Yankees fans' heads, saying things like “the food is way better here.” Additional teams to watch from Manhattan include the New York Knicks and the New York Rangers.
Home of the Yanks: The Bronx
If your team is the Yankees and you hate that the Bronx Giraffe is never allowed to win the mascot races, your borough is the Bronx. Although the Bronx Giraffe is not a Yankees mascot, it is the one that represents the Bronx in the “five boroughs” race at Citi Field. Yesterday, the poor guy was tackled by security before he could even finish the race against the Empire State Building (Manhattan), Ferry (Staten Island), Pizza Slice (Brooklyn), and Subway (Queens). The Bronx is yet another cultural hub with a distinct character in NYC, offering plenty of green spaces and attractions, including Yankee Stadium, the Bronx Zoo, and the New York Botanical Garden. Some additional teams to watch from the Bronx include New York City FC, a Major League Soccer club that currently plays at Yankee Stadium but is set to open its stadium soon. And yes, in case you were wondering, there is an actual giraffe at the Bronx Zoo.
